Garrick Venteicher | CEO
Mr. Venteicher is the Chief Executive Officer of Tyr Energy and is a member of its Board of Directors. He joined the company in 2003 shortly after it was founded. Prior to his appointment as CEO in 2017, Mr. Venteicher served as Chief Financial Officer with responsibility for sourcing and structuring capital for Tyr Energy’s electric generation investments; managing partner, lender and shareholder relationships; and oversight of financial reporting and treasury functions for Tyr Energy and its portfolio companies.
Mr. Venteicher has over 15 years of experience in the acquisition, development and management of utility scale thermal and renewable electric generation projects. Prior to joining Tyr, Mr. Venteicher was with Aquila, Inc. in its regulated utility and non-regulated generation businesses in various corporate and project finance functions. He began his career at Ford Motor Company in its financial management development program. He was awarded an MBA in Finance from Indiana University and a BA in Economics and International Affairs from the University of Nebraska. Mr. Venteicher is a CFA Charterholder.
TAT SO | General Counsel
Mr. So is an Executive Officer and has overall responsibility for all legal matters pertaining to Tyr, its subsidiaries and its business activities. Mr. So leads the legal team origination, structuring, negotiation and consummation of project acquisition, project development and project financing transactions for the company and its affiliates in their business development activities and provides overall legal support and services to the company and its affiliates in their business operations and strategic initiatives. As part of Tyr's leadership team, Mr. So is involved in the continuing formulation and implementation of Tyr Energy's business strategy in the North American IPP industry with regard to both conventional and renewable energy assets.
Mr. So joined Tyr Energy after almost a decade with the law firm of Chadbourne & Parke LLP, where he was a member of its Project Finance Group. While at Chadbourne, Mr. So led acquisition, financing and development transactions involving conventional power plants (natural gas and coal) and renewable energy assets (wind, solar, ethanol and geothermal) totaling over 8 GWs of power and $7 billion in transaction value. In addition, Mr. So has extensive restructuring and work-out experience in the telecommunications and energy industries, oftentimes with regard to non-recourse and off-balance sheet credit facilities and structures. Prior to Chadbourne, Mr. So practiced in the legal department of Mitsubishi Corporation where he was involved in numerous U.S. and cross-border transactions, including Mitsubishi's acquisition of its interest in the $2.3 billion Antamina copper and zinc mining project in Peru and the related $1.32 billion project financing (with political risk insurance). Prior to Mitsubishi, Mr. So started his legal career with a leading Wall Street law firm in New York City working on a variety of M&A and capital markets transactions throughout the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe and Asia.
Mr. So received his B.A. from New York University and his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where he was a Senior Editor of the Fordham Law Review.
Brock Shealy | Chief Administrative Officer
Mr. Shealy is an Executive Officer and leads our business operations functions, with responsibility for both asset management and investor relationships. He also provides leadership for our human resources, facilities, information technology and other general business requirements.
Prior to joining Tyr, Mr. Shealy was Of Counsel and consultant with Human Resources Return on Investment LLC (HROI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Lathrop & Gage LLP, advising clients on legal, HR and IT matters. Mr. Shealy previously held legal, compliance and IT leadership positions with Novelis, Inc., a global manufacturer of rolled aluminum products and a leader in aluminum recycling. Mr. Shealy earlier served as Senior Vice President and Corporate Compliance Officer for Aquila, Inc., an electricity and natural gas distribution utility and power generator now merged with Great Plains Energy. Other service with Aquila included Chief Administrative Officer of European energy merchant operations; Vice President-Human Resources, for the merchant services subsidiary; and Director-Employee and Labor Relations. Before joining Aquila, Mr. Shealy was a partner with Husch Blackwell Sanders (formerly Blackwell Sanders) law firm. He also has experience with the United States Department of Labor, Office of the Regional Solicitor.
Mr. Shealy holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Drury University (formerly Drury College) and a juris doctorate degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, where he was selected for the Order of the Bench and Robe.
JAMES TAYLOR | Vice President, Finance
Mr. Taylor is responsible for developing and maintaining banking relationships and for raising capital for Tyr's investments. Mr. Taylor is actively involved in structuring and negotiating project financing transactions. In addition to providing financial oversight for proposed acquisition and development projects, Mr. Taylor is also involved in participating with shareholders to set and monitor capital deployment standards and to assess the ongoing performance of the existing portfolio.
Mr. Taylor has worked in the IPP industry for over twenty years. His experience is both in lending and on the corporate side in arranging financing for IPP transactions. Mr. Taylor's career began in banking with Bank of America and Sumitomo Bank where he was instrumental in the bank's entry into structured finance and where he developed and headed up the portfolio for the Los Angeles office. Mr. Taylor worked as Sr. Manager of Project Finance at Mitsubishi Corporation's Diamond Energy subsidiary, as Treasurer at Illinois Power's unregulated Illinova Generating affiliate, and as Sr. Director of Structured Finance at Dynegy, Inc. Mr. Taylor has also consulted in the IPP industry advising on over twenty transactions and assisting in the acquisition of seven gas-fired power plants and two wind farms, and in the successful development of two biomass projects.
Mr. Taylor received both a B.S. in Business Management, and an MBA from Brigham Young University.
KEVIN CALHOON | Vice President, Business Development
Mr. Calhoon is Vice President, Business Development and is responsible for leading Tyr's acquisition activities and strategy. His duties include transaction origination, structuring, and execution. He is also responsible for the development and leadership of the investment team. Mr. Calhoon has over 25 years' experience in the energy industry, cutting across finance, business development and asset management. Prior to joining Tyr, Mr. Calhoon was Managing Director with Tenaska Capital Management, an energy-focused private equity manager, where he led M&A and divestiture transactions involving power generation and midstream infrastructure. Prior to joining Tenaska, Mr. Calhoon was Director, Asset Acquisitions for Tyr where he focused on investment opportunities for Tyr Capital and its partners. Preceding his time at Tyr, Mr. Calhoon held various executive level positions with Aquila Energy where he was responsible for IPP investments and asset management activities. Mr. Calhoon was awarded a MBA in finance from Rockhurst College, and a BS in Business Administration and Accounting from the University of Kansas.
Robert Shanklin | Vice President, Business Development & Strategic Initiatives
Mr. Shanklin is responsible for development of Tyr Energy's business strategy, with particular emphasis on greenfield development, investment restructuring, and external stakeholder relationships. Mr. Shanklin also leads Tyr's efforts for changes in domestic energy, such as strategic investment in battery storage, combined heat and power, and other transformational areas. Mr. Shanklin brings his 25 years in the energy business to cultivate senior level relationships in the industry. Most recently, Mr. Shanklin served as President and Chief Operating Officer at Brightergy LLC, a distributed solar energy company. Mr. Shanklin has held various executive level positions at Arch Coal and Aquila Inc. in addition to serving on boards of directors. In 2010, Shanklin received the prestigious Eisenhower Fellowship. He is a graduate of Kansas State University, with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Shanklin also earned an MBA, with an emphasis on finance and entrepreneurship, at the University of Missouri - Kansas City.
