Commonwealth Chesapeake is a power project that delivers energy to the PJM regional power reliability grid; PJM serves all or parts of 13 states in the East, Northeast and Midwest, and the District of Columbia. Commonwealth Chesapeake includes seven simple-cycle, low sulfur diesel-fueled turbine electric generator sets capable of producing 315 megawatts of electricity. The plant also provides "spinning reserve" capacity from four of its turbines, contributing to the reliability of the regional grid. The plant was strategically built on a 126-acre tract on the Delmarva Peninsula in two phases, the first in 2000 and second in 2001.
